Johns Beach Service covers an area of over five miles of Myrtle Beach, from 14th avenue North to 78th avenue North. Within this area there are three groups, the South (Yachtsman to Caribbean), Central (Dunes South to Island Vista), and the North (Monterey Bay to Grande Shores.) Each Area has a supervisor, which can change everyday.
In between these areas are Residential Zones, where lifeguards are spread out and beach goers are technically “swim at their own risk.” Rules in Residential Zones are different than that of commercial areas, surfing is allowed during all hours and etc. The main Residential Zone JBS is responsible for is from 31st Avenue North to 52nd Avenue North. Two mobile lifeguards cover this area on ATVs. Table 2 demonstrates the beach stand layout.

When setting up your beach it is important that it looks crisp and clean. You are responsible for your stand, it is your own ‘small business’ and the more it succeeds, the more you succeed. Figures 1, 2 and 3 illustrate great umbrella lines. It takes hard work and discipline every morning to commit to having a great line, but it is important because it is more visually appealing to a customer which can result in more sales.
